Center of Hope was established by the Business and Professional Women’s Association of Columbia in 1989 to provide support, prevent violence and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and the community as a means of building a safer future for everyone. As a leading resource for system change, our goal is to provide meaningful and effective support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, by equipping and empowering them with the skills they need to move beyond the abuse and onto the fulfilling lives they deserve.
Although our program involves a comprehensive approach to addressing each individual’s needs, the following is a brief overview of the main programs offered at Hope House.
*PLEASE NOTE ALL CENTER OF HOPE SERVICES ARE CONFIDENTIAL*
Short and Long Term Residential Living
Center of Hope provides safe, short-term and long-term residential living in a confidential location for victims of domestic violence and their children to begin the process of healing. These programs address both immediate needs such as clothing, food, hygiene items, and prepare safety plans as well as long-term needs such as action plans to prepare for the future, financial planning and employment assistance.
Case Management
When victims first come to Center of Hope they are often overwhelmed with fear and a sense of hopelessness and cannot see a way out. Our long-term case management services assist victims in finding the education, job, and permanent housing they need to achieve self-sufficiency.
Court Advocacy
Center of Hope provides accompaniment, advocacy, and support for victims as they proceed through the criminal justice system to address domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. Center of Hope’s Court Advocacy Program increases the accessibility of the criminal justice system to victims, promotes victims’ safety and well-being and helps to empower them to have a voice.
Outreach Advocacy
Center of Hope provides victims with short and long-term support and advocacy, including response to medical facilities upon report of abuse/violence. An emphasis is placed on the education of the impact of trauma and locating community resources to fully address the needs of those we serve.
Therapeutic Counseling
Master’s level therapists provide crisis and long-term therapy designed to specifically address domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. Center of Hope provides individualized treatment for victims through a wide variety of therapeutic techniques. Skype sessions are available for those who may not be able to receive counseling on site.
